6 Must Sees at Ragan's 2017 Social Media Conference #RaganDisney

6 Must Sees at Ragan's 2017 Social Media Conference #RaganDisney

Next week I have the absolute pleasure of taking a break from Michigan's winter tundra and head south to Florida for Ragan Communication's Social Media Conference for PR, Marketing and Corporate Communications at Disney World!

This will be my second time attending Ragan's conference, nicknamed #RaganDisney due to it being hosted at the Happiest Place on Earth. The last time I attended, in 2014, I learned a lot about being a great digital storyteller, creating effective brand journalism, and everything that has to do with living in an internet of everything world.

It's been a few years but I still think back to a lot of the practices that were taught and explored at this conference, which is why I can't wait to go back again this year!

Here are the sessions and speakers I am most looking forward to this year:

1. Pre-Conference Workshops

I was not able to attend the pre-conference workshops back in 2014 but this year I am. The pre-conference workshops cover everything from a bootcamp geared at the Big 5 of social media to the editorial process. I'm hoping to get some insight on how to better manage a digital presence with such a small team.

2. Steve Crescenzo

When I reviewed the agenda for this year I was immediately drawn to the name Steve Crescenzo of Crescenzo Communications. I remember him speaking at the 2014 conference and I remember him being incredibly engaging. This year he is hosting a pre-conference workshop on writing for today's audiences and how to switch gears between print, online content, social media, and multimedia channels.

3. Strategies to Tackle Internal Communications Barriers to Engagement

One of the biggest and most difficult issues I face every day at work is being able to engage with our internal audience, our employees. Bob Michelson, President & CEO of RMG, is going to cover common internal communication obstacles as well as strategies and solutions to help you reach every employee. This presentation starts at 7:00 a.m. so I'll be seeing you all bright and early!

4. Connecting with a Global Audience

Did you know more than a billion people around the world log into Facebook each day? That's insane! That also means that it's more important than ever to make sure you understand who your audience is and how to best engage them regardless of geographic location and cultural differences. The best part about this session is that it is hosted by Craig Mullaney, Strategic Partner and Development Manager for Facebook, and Monica Adractas, Director of Workplace by Facebook. So we'll be hearing about Facebook's global reach straight from the horses mouth!

5. Maximizing Impact with a Small Team

Whether it is at work with my small team of three or when I'm flying solo with my freelance, I can definitely use any tips on how to make the most with a small team. Laura Wilson, Director of Digital Engagement & Social Media at Georgetown University, will be covering ways to scale social media content to get the most out of it, how to identify the right tools for your team, how to collaborate better, and ways to re-package user-generated features to build a steady stream of content.

6. Networking

The best part about #RaganDisney is all of the great people I am able to meet. Ragan does a great job with making sure there is ample time and opportunities for us to get to mix and mingle and really learn from each other and bounce ideas off eachother. We're all in the same boat!

You can review the full agenda for the three-day conference here. I'd love to hear what you're most excited to see (or wish you could see if you were attending).

Not attending? Ragan has set up an online webcast of the conference so you can enjoy it from the comforts of home (or your office)!

Are you heading down to Orlando for #RaganDisney? Leave me a comment or tweet me at @katelynshelby. I'd love to meet up!
