10 Key Ideas to Successful Social Media Marketing

10 Key Ideas to Successful Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing can get really overwhelming really quick. Where do you start? How do you stay focused? There is always something new and shiny begging for your attention.

These ten key ideas will help you to stay on track and focused on attaining a successful social media marketing campaign.

1. Know Your Audience

Your social media content should be tailored to your consumer base, not based on your own personal interests. Post stories that they can relate to--stories that provide them with something. A great rule of thumb is to follow the 80/20 rule. Meaning 80% of your content should be relevant to your audience, while 20% can be specifically about your business, products, or services.

2. Understand Which Platform(s) are Best for Your Audience

Social media isn't one-size-fits-all. It is important, after identifying your target audience, to do some research on where that demographic is most active. Maybe it's Facebook but maybe it is YouTube. It is also important to take a look at what your competitors are doing and what is working and not working for them.

3. Be Original

Take a chance. Be original. Show your personality! Help people see what makes you different from the competition. You have to stand out for people to remember you!

4. Have a Personality

Develop a brand personality and stick to it. Dull, boring posts lead to dull, boring results. Be excited about your brand. If you aren't excited and don't love what you stand for, neither will your audience.

5. Maintain one voice.

Once you develop that brand personality, a consistent brand voice will be the logical next step. By maintaining one voice you will easily be able to provide concise and consistent content to your audience.

6. Be Active

Be active on your social media, but don't post so often that you overwhelm or annoy people. This could lead to two problems: 1) Too much information can cause your followers to stop following your posts, and 2) Your posts can get lost within their feeds.

7. Share

We've been taught to share since we were kids. Some things never change. This is one of those things. Share information and promote fellow brands! Hopefully they will reciprocate.

8. Create (and Follow) a Checklist

Checklists are great for many facets of life, including social media. Sure, it sounds simple: Just log onto Twitter or Facebook, type a post and hit share, right? Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple. Make a checklist to ensure that your message will be understood, check for any grammar issues, make sure the information you’re sharing can be shared and check the time you send it to ensure your readers will see it. Make sure all of your links are valid. These are just a few examples of things to pay attention to when crafting your tweets and posts. Attention to this detail could save you time and trouble later.

9. Provide Top Notch Customer Service

Great customer service can make or break a company. Happy customers are more likely to come back and establish a loyalty to your brand. And they'll bring others along with them! They will be your best brand ambassadors through word-of-mouth advertising. That's the best advocacy you can ask for!

10. Have Fun!

Do I even have to explain?! When you're having fun and enjoying what you do people will notice!

Do you have something you'd like to add to the list? Leave your key to a successful marketing campaign in the comments!
